Our Story

Welcome to Braai — where open flames, global flavour, and Donegal’s finest ingredients come together.

Created by husband and wife team Jubal & Claire, this is a family-run restaurant that blends South African braai culture with Irish roots to deliver dishes inspired by world travel and a passion for great local produce.

Our dedicated team work hard to create an authentic experience for all who visit our small restaurant in the heart of Creeslough village.

We focus on serving South African influenced small plates, large plates, wine, cocktails, and much more.

Why Braai?

The word “braai” simply means “barbecue” or “grilling food over fire.”

A tradition deeply embedded in the nation’s culture; the braai is a quintessential South African experience.

From its humble beginnings to its current status as a symbol of unity and celebration, the history of the braai mirrors South Africa’s diverse cultural heritage.

In South Africa a braai about gathering friends and family around the fire, sharing stories, laughter, and enjoying good food.
